Follow-Up: The White House Doesn't Seem Too Amused by Jay-Z's 'Open Letter'

Daily press briefings at the White House are usually reserved for conversations about the debt ceiling, sequestration, and now, apparently, Jay-Z and Beyonce's Cuba trip heard 'round the world.

Press secretary Jay Carney didn't seem at all amused when a brave reporter asked him to respond to Jay-Z's rap song "Open Letter" which seeks to silence critics questioning the legitimacy of his travels. To the amusement of her colleagues, the reporter went even further, actually citing several lines from the rap: "I turned Havana into Atlanta, boy from the hood but got White House clearance" and "Obama said quote, 'Chill, you gonna get me impeached.'"

"The White House, from the President on down, had nothing to do with anybody's travel to Cuba," Carney responded, clearly annoyed. "That is something that the Treasury handles."

He then added firmly, silencing the reporter's continued probing: "It's a song. The president did not communicate with Jay-Z over this trip." Lesson: This is Carney's house, best not mess.
